Dear BVUSD Families and Staff,
I hope you are doing well and staying healthy!
Congratulations on completing the first official week of Distance Learning! A big shout out and thank you to our fabulous teaching staff for their very hard work connecting with their students/families, preparing, presenting, zooming, google-classroom-ing, and trying to help their students and families find a successful balance while also working toward that balance for their own families! Teachers are continuing to refine their distance learning plans as they learn what works best for their students in this new environment and work out any technical issues. Teachers may record zoom meetings for future reference if they like, but students and parents may not record the meetings due to legal privacy issues.
We ask that your child completes the work given by the teacher as they can given your family schedule. Our goal is to continue your child's learning but not to create undue stress with our distance learning program. Teachers will be commenting on the quality of work done, effort, and progress made on the on-line platforms such as Zearn, Lexia, Khan Academy, etc. and on assignments they send via Google Classroom. If the work assigned is too much for your child, please email and let the teacher know. If there is too little work for your child, please let your child's teacher know that as well as teachers have optional extension activities they can provide. If your child needs a little help, please let your child's teacher know and they can either help your child directly, or depending on the nature of the issue, direct you to our tutoring and support services.
If your child is feeling anxious, Jeanette Wendt is available to schedule phone or zoom
counseling sessions. You can contact her at
jeanette.wendt@bvusd.org with your child's name, grade level, and a brief description of the concern.
Prospective Board Member Training: The Board of Trustees orientation training originally scheduled for April was postponed and will be rescheduled for May or June. We will have at least one vacancy on our school board to be filled at the November election. Please email me if you are interested in considering running for the school board.
sue.field@bvusd.org.
Census: The Census helps determine some of the funding for districts. It is quick and easy to complete the census. If you have not done so already, please go to
https://2020census.gov/. Thank you very much!
Parents of Fifth and Sixth Graders–Human Growth and Development: Principal Wilson and I are sad not to be able to do our puberty presentations to our 5th and 6th grade students this year. Mr. Wilson had sent the puberty packet to fifth and sixth grade families before parent preview night. If you need another copy, please email
Josh.wilson@bvusd.org.
Many thanks to Tina Barrett for preparing and distributing the computers to families who needed them! Many thanks to the principals for all of the many behind the scenes details they are doing to make this all work. Special thanks for our special education team for their work in providing the IEP support to our students with special needs!
And many thanks to our parents and students for bearing with us as we work through all of the many details of this new learning platform and continually refine distance education for our students. We know this situation is not ideal and does not replicate a school day with your child's teacher, but working together, students will get the education they need to complete this school year in good shape.
Take care and be safe!
Sue Field, Ed.D., Superintendent
