Who We Are

We are an organization of dedicated parents serving our school and children’s needs for a better educational experience. The Bennett Valley Alliance of Parents and Teachers (BVAPT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose purpose is to enhance the education of Bennett Valley students and to build community.

All parents and teachers are automatically members. There is no cost to join. Members are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings every second Tuesday from 6:30-8:30pm in the district office located on the Yulupa School campus.

Our Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the all-volunteer, voting body that works in collaboration with the superintendent, principals, faculty, staff, and parents. The teachers and administration of the Bennett Valley Union School District are wonderful partners collaborating with the parents for a fully supported team.

Board Positions

All board members attend monthly meetings, check and respond to BVAPT emails, and manage the unique aspects of their board position using tools such as Google Workspace (including Gmail, Drive, Docs, etc.). Below is a brief summary of each board position. For detail descriptions and questions, please contact us. Open positions are indicated with a yellow star – check them out today!

President

Head of the organization who facilitates meetings, manages board members, meets with teachers and admin, etc.

Vice President

Steps in for the president when needed, onboards and connects with new board members, ordering, etc.

Treasurer

Manages the books and budget, handles finances, manages money and banking, collaborates with district office about budget, etc.

Secretary

Compiles meeting agendas, takes meeting minutes, distributes meeting minutes, writes thank you notes, etc.

Special Events

Organizes and runs special events, coordinates event volunteers, manages principal’s reading challenge lists and ice cream social, etc.

Walk-a-thon Chairpersons

Consists of a two co-chairpersons who organize and run all aspects of the Walk-a-thon, including theme, calendaring, event planning, prizes, event day, etc.

Fundraising

Organizes gift wrap, school supplies, and spirit wear fundraisers, coordinates with principals and vendors, distributes items to parents, etc.

Book Fair (Fall)

Organizes book fair at Strawberry, coordinates with vendor, oversees book fair events, coordinates volunteers, advertises the book fair, etc.

Book Fair (Spring)

Organizes book fair at Yulupa, coordinates with vendor, oversees book fair events, coordinates volunteers, advertises the book fair, etc.

Hospitality

Arranges food and gifts for teacher and staff appreciation events, assists with other events as needed, provides refreshments for volunteers at BVAPT events and some board meetings, etc.

Communications

Maintains an editorial calendar to promote BVAPT events, fundraising opportunities, open positions, creating post, copy images and monitoring/engaging with comments and administration.

Website

Maintains and updates the BVAPT website by keeping content and events up to date. Co-manages Google Workspace with the president.

Strawberry Marquee

Consults with the Strawberry principal to update the marquee monthly.

Yearbook - Yulupa

Collects art work for Yulupa yearbook covers, collects photos, creates yearbook, updates board on progress and needs, etc.

Yearbook - Strawberry

Collects art work for Strawberry yearbook covers, collects photos, creates yearbook, updates board on progress and needs, etc.

Yearbook Manager

Coordinates yearbook sales and advertising, communicates with the yearbook company, works with Yulupa and Strawberry Yearbook board members.

Donation Coordinator

Reaches out to companies and businesses via letter, and calls to acquire donations for events and different BVAPT needs.

Outreach

Actively recruits and advertises for open board positions, coordinates the BVAPT table during registration, back to school night, kindergarten screening, open house, etc.

Mini Grant Chairperson

Create and edit grant applications, coordinate grant calendar, review applications with administration, send approved applications to BVAPT board for review, email applicants with results, follow up on grants, etc.

BV Cares

Organizes and executes fundraising efforts for BV Cares and decides the most effective way to spend their funds

Teacher Rep - Yulupa

Takes notes at board meetings to provide Yulupa teachers with an update, communicates budget allocations to teachers, etc.

Teacher Rep - Strawberry

Takes notes at board meetings to provide Strawberry teachers with an update, communicates budget allocations to teachers, etc.
